Cleanth (1906 - 94), U.S. teacher and critic. A leading proponent of the New Criticism movement, he edited The Southern Review 1935 - 42 and taught at Yale University 1947 - 75. Notable works: Modern Poetry and Tradition (1939) and The Well-Wrought Urn (1947)
